Lake Erie Tourism offers many options for vacationers. The quiet relaxed atmosphere is welcoming to those trying to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There are numerous small towns along the Ohio border of Lake Erie that welcome tourist. Towns such as Bellevue, Vermillion, Lakeside and Huron are the perfect background for your holiday. These water front communities offer a quaint brand of hospitality that is well received by vacationers.
Take a break from the Lake is the motto of Bellevue. Founded in 1815 this village offers many non water oriented things for you to enjoy. There is the Historic Lyme Village. It is a living history village that represents life from the early 1800s to the early 1900s. The Mad River and NKP Railroad Museum allows you to board a real railroad locomotive. The Seneca Caverns tour takes you deep into the Earth to see the wonders underground. It is lighted and easily traversed so the whole family can enjoy the attraction. There is also plenty of shopping and dining options to complete your day.
The town of Huron features Native American villages that date back for 1470 AD. This was confirmed by carbon dated pottery pieces found at the sites. There is also an ancient Native America burial site locate west of the Huron River. Being a water oriented community there is plenty of boating, fishing, swimming and other water based activities. There are also plenty of public picnic areas and campgrounds.
The town of Lakeside has the Chautauqua community. During the summer months from June to September you must purchase a pass to get in and enjoy the amenities provided. There is a lot happening once you get inside the gates. Multiple sports courts from basketball to tennis. Yoga classes, swimming, live music and historic tours are just a smattering of what you can participate in.
Vermillion Ohio is another lake front destination. It is almost like stepping back into a historic New England town. When you walk around the town you are present with a variety of fine restaurants, specialty shops and historic museums. There are also boat rides down at the river, you can swim on the beach, go fishing or play golf. This small town has a lot to offer.
Perry's cave offers a unique approach to draw in the tourist. The cave is located in the Put In Bay Township on South Bass Island. You can view astounding stalagmites and stalactites. The cave is fifty two feet below South Bass Island in the middle of Lake Erie. It was discovered in 1813 by Commodore Perry. It is now a fun filled family fun center that offers a myriad of activities associated with the cave.
At Mystery Hill in Marble head Ohio you can visit the family fun center. Explore the Pre-historic forest. Take a short walking tour where life size dinosaur replicas live and are waiting to take you millions of years back in time. You can also visit Mystery Hill where water runs uphill in defiance of gravity. There are a lot of fun things to do here. When planning your vacation plan of a full day at this destination.
