No hurrying around trying to get all the activities in for day, or standing in lines getting pushed and bumped. Join small communities on the Ohio border of Lake Erie and enjoy their hospitality. These towns are Huron, Bellevue, Lakeside and Vermilion, several small communities along the water line.
Bellevue has the motto of "Take a break from the Lake". You can see the Bellevue Museum, Maplewood Gallery, Historic Lyne Villiage which is preserving yesterday for tomorrow. There are guided village tours of 16 building. Mad river and NKP Railroad Society Museum is a museum where you can climb aboard an authentic railroad car and locomotive. Sagebrush and Seneca Caverns is the caviest cave in the USA. Discovered in 1872, you can pan for gemstones, and minerals. Enjoy shopping , eating in the restaurants, or having a picnic. Sorrowful Mother Shrine is the oldest Marian shrine in the Midwest. It is on 150 acres of beautiful woodlands.
Huron's sandy breaches and lake front and Nickel Plate Park are a few of the many attractions from this area. The East Harbor State Park is located on shores of Lake Erie. There are several opportunities for outdoor activities such as boating, fishing swimming, picnicking and camping.
Lake Erie vacations naturally gravitate to Lakeside, Ohio where life is simplified and there is a historical Victorian setting. There is nightly entertainment, water activities, cultural events, educational and religious programs, lodging, dining and shopping.
Vermilion, Ohio wants to make our home town your port of call. There is a touch of New England and a very welcome feeling when walking around the streets of town. There are many fine restaurants, exceptional shops, museums, beautiful parks, boat rides on the river, play or swim on the beach, go fishing or play on the 20 golf courses within 20 minutes of Vermilion.
Many communities are along the lake front and have many activities you can enjoy. Perrys cave is billed as the Greatest site under the lake. You can shop on the top then go on a gemstone mining tour of a natural limestone cave. Underground lake is located ½ mile from downtown Put-in-Bag, Ohio. Gemstone mining is located outside of premises. Prehistoric Forest and Mystery Hill is located in Marblehead. Walk the prehistoric forest and view the volcano, see the 35' waterfall, 15 life size dinosaurs and a dig site.
Defy the laws of nature and gravity at mystery hill. A nice gift shop, mini golf course, playground and picnic area is available for visitors to see and do. At Port Clinton there is a African Safari Wildlife Park, the only drive through park in the Midwest. They are open April 11-November 4 rain or shine. Along with the drive through park, they have pony rides, animals exhibited in pens and lots of fun for all ages.
There is a 107 mile shoreline that faces beautiful Lake Erie. This is a different type of vacation , away from the theme parks and the busy rushing around trying to get everything done. Lake Erie vacations are those rare opportunities for the breath of fresh air.
