Getaway Today Vacations

Our vacation plans had been postponed and rearranged at least three times so it was a minor miracle that my husband finally got the all clear to take a week off from work and we found Get Away Today vacations. By this time though we felt that we didn't have the time to make plans so we were pretty much up a creek. Since it was a last minute thing, we hadn't planned or booked anything so we were left trying to decide where to go and what to do that wouldn't break the bank.

That's when we discovered our newest favorite travel company, Getaway Today Vacations. Getaway Today Vacations was started about twenty years ago by a couple who had just returned from Disneyland and wanted to help other families experience the Disneyland. Unfortunately, especially for a family on a strict budget, Disneyland, Disney World and most theme parks can be prohibitively expensive and founders Chuck and Julie Smith knew this.

The Smiths knew that many hotel rooms go unused, so they started to contact hotels around theme parks and asking for discounts - and that was how Getaway Today Vacations was launched. Now they've expended to offer, in addition to Disney vacations, family vacations, cruises, resorts and adventure vacations. So far, over 2 million people have experienced Getaway Today vacations.

In our case, we decided to make the two hour drive to Anaheim, CA and go to Disneyland. We picked up a terrific Get Away Today vacations deal and we were able to almost "double-up" on our stay. We purchased the three-night package Disneyland Hotel package and were given an additional two nights for free - we saved about 33% over the cost if we'd booked .

We also opted for the Disneyland Resort vacation package where we all (adults too) paid the kid's price for our tickets. This allowed us to treat our kids to dinner in Goofy's Kitchen and the entire family laughed through the entire meal as Goofy and the gang entertained us.

The Disneyland Resort vacation package can make even the biggest theme park addict go into overload. In addition to Disneyland, the package includes tickets to Disney's California Adventure Park, A Bug's Land, The Golden State, Hollywood Pictures Backlot and Paradise Pier. One of our favorites was the Backlot where we saw a Broadway type musical of "Aladdin". (Since our kids are younger, we stayed away from the "Hotel of Terror" and also skipped much of the Bug's Land.)

Because we'd gotten such a nice deal on our Get Away Today vacation package, we chose to add a day at nearby Knott's Berry Farm also. All in all, we were thrilled with our Get Away Today vacations package. We booked the entire trip within minutes and we loved the fact that we still received a large discount.

There were quite a number of other options available but we decided that, for our family, we didn't want to wear ourselves too thin by overdoing it. However the next time we do a Get Away Today vacation, we plan on trying out the Disney cruises to the Caribbean. Or maybe Hawaii. Or...oh wait. Here's a 65% discount at a Sandal's Resort...so maybe a second honeymoon.
