My bf and I want to plan some hiking and biking (road and mountain) between july 30 and aug 15. whats better flying to las vegas and driving to "death valley National Park" or just flying to Phoenix, Arizona and checking out the parks there.

Phoenix is a little far from the AZ parks, but near there you can hit Seguaro NP or head north and do Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, and up into Utah to Bryce, Zion, Canyonlands, Monument Valley, etc. A bit of a drive, but definately doable. If you are going to be out in July and August I would say Death Valley might be a bit warm.

From Vegas you can drive south to the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, etc in about an hour. I would say fly to Vegas or Phoenix and go that route. It'll still be really hot, but less hot than Death Valley.

I have been to over 25 national parks .
Yellowstone is #1 if you do spend enough time for seeing the natural spots and the wild animals.
    You will be touched.

Acadia National Park should for sure be on this list! Glad the Grand Canyon is not. Also funny that they included a picture of Hawaii that is NOT even on the same island as the National Park they mentioned! I really want to check out Virgin Islands and Glacier!

I believe the Badlands of South Dakota should be somewhere on here. Probably around number 10 but still warrants an appearance.

  28. Jon May 3, 2013 5:27 AM

It's interesting that Smoky Mountain National Park isn't on this list since it is, or at least was last time I checked, the most visited National Park.
