To know Houston, you need to know someone in Houston. There are so many hidden gems in Houston but you won't discover it on your own. You need the local people here to show you around. There is definitely hidden gems in this city.
Where do I start.......Houston....world class eateries from every cultures...world class shopping that attracts international tourists....great museums, world renowned cancer institutes, oil and energy capital, fun festivals, concerts, film industries, music industries, ...... the best economy in the country producing millionaires every year.....thank you Houston for all you do for me as I am one of those millionaires who is fortunate to call Houston "my home".
I have to agreewith this list. These cities lack the heart beat that creates a truely great city. They are missing the passion, the street art, the quirky bums, the pulse. For those who defend Huston, it is truely one of the most horridly dull places I've been. There is absolutely no energy, no vibrance, and no interest.
I went to Brussels and found it a very fun city! They have live music bars everywhere, interesting museums, lots of little wacky stores, quite an international city, amazing coffee shops, tons of open air festivals.... I dont know who came up with this list...... but they were WAAAAY OFF!!
I agree -- this is total crap. According to this person if the city isn't littered with bars and clubs it's boring. I think the author needs rehab.
That's funny....the authors of this lists need rehab....I agree with Emma.....a city that is livable should not be littered with cheap and disgusting bars/clubs. I know I wouldn't want to raise my children in that environment. If the authors have children, I feel sorry for them.
I adore the city of Houston. This town holds its own. Good hearted and friendly folks here.
I love Houston!!!!!!!!
To above posting by M....Oh, honey....we don't have to defend our towns whether that be Brussels, Houston, Zurich...we are proud to brag about them because we love them....each of these towns has something special to offer visitors....life is just to short...enjoy while you can wherever you may be....Brussels, Houston, or Zurich...Peace....
To all you sons and bitches....can't we all just get along....like Lydia said, "Life is just too short"....get your ass out there and enjoy life and quit this shit trash talking crap about these nice places....peace out, bitches....
You said it, Homes.....people need to quit this stupid trash talking...seriously people....there's better things to do in life....let's show each other love...if you can't do that...then may GOD be with you....peace out, dudes!
I cannot think of a more boring place than switzerland. Living here for a few years, the only way I get to enjoy myself is flying somewhere else in europe. People have no blood or soul, they are simple robots walking down the street to work, work, work... I can remember the last time I heard a joke from a Swiss, yeah, it was never.
Singapore is horrifically boring. The first trip may not be as there are a few things to see but in subsequent visits you see just how boring the city and people are. The most repetitive and limited place to visit in the world. Thankfully most foreigners who live there can leave every weekend due to its proximity to non-boring places.
I would agree with Jamie on that. I lived and worked in Singapore for a year and ran away after that. It really is a retarded place. First 2 months were good - enjoyed the nightlife, food and a great pool hall but after that the people start to make you crazy. They're illogical cretins.
Also what about Helsinki? Half of them are alcoholics because it's the only way to get through the boredom!
I live in Houston. I would not call this place boring. For the gutless guy who can't find a stylish girl, I guess it is because you are too lame to find out where to go. There are many hip and happening bars, clubs, and lounges to hit around the 610 loop. I write this and I am 40 years old, I can't imagine the twits slamming Houston are as old as I am. Last weekend I partied at Hughes Hangar, visited The Down Home, smoked a a nice cigar indoors at Downing Street and drank a fine cocktail at Anvil surrounded by beautiful women. And for the rest of the haters if you are bored, you might check out the Art Car Parade/ museum, The Livestock Show and Rodeo, or the local play houses. I trust you will not find anything as diverse and non-boring as those events anywhere in the world. Houston is at the beginning of the Sam Houston National Forest there are so many trees here that when a hurricane hits it takes months to clear them. Finally I travel the world for business and I have never been bored and not been able to find beauty where I go. I believe those who are bored and only see ugly are usually boring and pretty ugly themselves. Visit in October to May if you want mild weather.
You said it, Lazslo! Those folks don't get out often. There is nothing boring about diverse H-Town.
I don't think any of the cities listed are truly boring. By comparison - they well may be. Brussels is certainly not as great as Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin or Hamburg. Bratislava is not much when compared to Prague, or Krakow, or Vienna. Houston is not NYC, SF, LA or Vegas. Oslo is more boring than Stockholm or Copenhagen. But there are scores of more boring cities!
I agree with Switzerland!! Even they have the most amazing mountains and lakes in the world, the country is so bored that you can kill yourself. Despite hiking & cycling and visit every weekend a lake there are nothing else to do.
Switzerland is soooo boring.
If you're very old, this is the best place to be.
By the way, I'm a Swiss.
I have to agree about Houston. Have lived here a few years now, and it's the most horrible place I have ever lived at. The weather sucks and the nature is very boring. And it's so spread out, you have to drive forever if you want to do something
Erik....you goofy, doofus ass...Houston is a large city, that's why it's so spread out. It's the 4th largest city in the country. If you want a small city where unemployment is high then move your ass out of here.
That's right...Erik, you dumb ass....Houston is not a boring nor horrible place...we have the best winter...if your ass wanna drive in the freakin snow and ice then move your ass up north like Buffalo...see how your ass like it up there....
Ladies....easy there on my bro Erik....he can't help it if he's slow and a retard....
That's right....every winter, people from up north spend their winters down here in Houston....I like checking out the different license plates that drive around our city every year (Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Alaska, Mississippi, Canada, California...). So much fun to see where people are from....and welcome to our most beloved city Houston....
In your slam of Wellington, you mention that one would have a better urban experience in Sydney or Melbourne. Both of those cities are 1400 miles away in Australia, a whole different country-- you nimrods!
Wow....Houston just had a fashion show recently and it was great....love it....can't wait for future Houston Fashion Show....
Right with some. Houston, Singapore, Zurich, Perth and Brussels are extremely listless. The best part of being in any of them is being AT the airport. Life is too short to spend in dull, vapid cities. There's so much more out there. Ie. Kathmandu, Calcutta, Kandy, Chicago, Rome!
To Adash:
Norwegian girls are NOT the most beautiful in the world. There are some norwegian beautiful girls. Many norwegian girls look average and fat not feminine at all. . And many are stupid
Latino and slavic girls are most beautiful i world
Norwegian man
I lived 10 years in Los Angeles and now I live in Dakar, Senegal, but I always love to come home to Bratislava. Depends on the season, but city offers plenty of possibilities to have fun, go out, dance till the morning, do the sport by the river Danube, sit in the countless coffee shops and watch pretty Slovakian girls.... Actually every time I return home and take a walk in the city I find it more charming and people (especially women) really dressed up. I don't think that the person who wrote this article actually visited the city... Because if he would maybe it wouldn't make his list of the Cities that are most fun in the world, but certainly it wouldn't be on the list of the most boring cities.
i don't agree about Brussels, there is 1001 things to do, things happening all the time. i f you are a superficial tourist maybe. You'll get bored after two days after seing all the typical landmarks. Whe you actually live in this town, there is som much fun to have and a real quality of life to discover.
Person who said Corvallis. Oregon - yes, boring, but hardly even qualifies as a city and certainly not an international one. Person who said Geneva - true! I once spent a very boring Christmas there and was back again this summer and it was still boring. I'm staying in Doha, Qatar for a week and would like to dominate it as the most boring modern international city on Earth. I WISH I was in Brussels right now!
I love Houston!
Me, too...I love Houston!!!!!
Go Houston Dynamo! Bring home the champion!
Wellington has a higher concentration of bars/clubs and restaurants than almost any city in the world (inc NYC) and at least a few times a years the central city is shut to traffic for massive street parties, have decent summers and autumns too.and a few of the other cities on the list arn't that bad,you could certainly put Geneva on the list tho, felt like throwing myself of the bridge into the freezing lake there!
HI i am from Belgium and live in Asia right now.. I agree with Singapore, nice for a couple of days, boring to live.. Brussels is nice but you need to know where it's cooking.. also the suburbs have a lot to offer.. but saying that, when u are in belgium you rather visit Antwerp/Gent (40 min from Brussels) that's where it really gets "hot"...
Way to go, Houston Dynamo! Eastern Conference Champs! Let's bring home the national award! Love you guys! Good luck! And, yes, I'm fond of Houston, too. Great city!
Marcus here from Los Angeles...alright.....congratulations to the Houston Dynamo, Eastern Conference Champs! Yo, bro, ya'll kick ass! Good game. Everything is bigger in Texas, including that soccer team of Houston.
I'm from Chicago but have lived in Europe and Asia for the last 15 years and I would say that most American cities are boring compared to the ones overseas. Most of them will have you driving to a 2nd rate resto/bar and then to your suburban home. I thought Kansas City was so boring that I left 2 days early from a business trip. I heard from a friend from the UK that Houstonians are nice people but big and fat. The only redeeming quality that other posters write is that's cheap. Oh great. Atalanta is definitely over-rated as well. Budapest is damn boring, more than a week and you'll want to leav e for Austria (and although the Budapest girls are hot, they are dour/boring). If you want excitement, it's hard to beat Bangkok and Tokyo and HK (Kowloon). Singabore is nice but boring, Asia for beginners (mostly expat wankers who work for the banks).
Zurich is boring as hell and always cloudy.
Mr. John Parker, you are so wrong about Houstonians. The women there are definitely not fat nor big unlike those up north like in Chicago. The southern women in Houston are slim, trim, and nicely feminine built with nice tan body. Get your eyes check, Bro....cause you might have cataracts or maybe early blindness. Dude, you have no clues, Bro.
People, you guys are funny as hell....Dave, bro...your comment about someone having cataracts is hilarious. I damn near laugh so hard I almost fall out of my chair trying not to pee on myself. Lovin all those damn funny comments. Keepin it real...that's what I'm talkin about.
Hey Dave - oh come on. Most chicks in the States are fat as hell, whether it's Houston or Chicago. Try living in Europe or Asia, and you'll gladly never go back to fatsville USA. I am writing this from my office overlooking Ginza, Tokyo. Definitely one of the 'most exciting cities in the world'.
Hey John Parker - I got to agree with you about the US. It's funny that the Dave guy didnn't even properly read that a friend of yours from the UK made the comment about Houston, not you. I'm Dutch and worked last year in Tokyo - absolutely loved it. I love all the comments from the armchair travelers - only real expat road warriors can wrap their heads around the kind of things we've seen/done.
Amazing how all the comments are made by self-conscious Houston people. You'd never see that much by the more confident. And Brussels is not boring - quite nice actually. At least you don't have to go to a mall like Houston for kicks or drive around the city to find stuff. From what I gather, the kinf of folks who love Houston as a city, are the kind of Americans who find no fault in America's actions and disregard its decline in the world. I am willing to bet most are making less than 100K and not part of the 'creative class'.
wtf. wellington has so much to offer you must be f*cking kidding.
Erik and Dave K...Europe is overrated...it's dirty and disgusting....you don't see a lot of people wanting to immigrate there. America has a lot of people wanting to immigrate here because we have higher standards of living and we're well educated. Check your facts before you write your posting. I have lived in Europe when I worked there and am glad I don't live there anymore.
For your information, John Parker, American women are fine. Not fat and ugly and smelly like European women who eat so much cheese their farts smell as bad as stale cheese.
I live in brussels and i definately agree
Hey Dave S. - Good one/quite funny. It's all funny to guys like me who live in Tokyo and are married to beautiful asian women and are in the top 2%. Good luck to the rest of you little fockers.
That Parker guy is one mean dude. I wish I was him. ha ha
Anything to get out of America. Being an expat in Japan sounds great right about now. Being an expat anywhere sounds good with the current state of affairs at home.
To Dave S. - You used to work/live in Europe and you say it's dirty/disgusting and that the people are less educated than America? I think I have heard it all now. You just stay home in your shitty little burb in America, ok? No one wants you overseas, especially me. (sent from a Starbucks on High Street Kensington - London)
Thanks Parker for setting Dave S. straight. Funny how a yank is going to tell a Dutchman that America is more sophisticated than W.Europe and for us to get our facts straight. And what facts exactly - no facts were stated, jus opinions. Just another yank wanker.
Los Angeles's surrounding cities are fun, but the actual city is pretty boring...has no culture like NYC
John Parker and Erik...grow up and stop acting like little boys....life is too short for you to talk trash...I don't have time for stupid people like you. Go to hell!
That's right guys...grow up...tend to your family and stop all this trash talking on this posting. Life is too short for all this evil talk. Worry about your family and your own damn self and think about what you're teaching your children....how can you expect to set a good example for your children when you can't even act like a mature adult. Grow up people...next time, leave some constructive messages. Seriously, people, make this a better world for our children. World peace to all and let's love one another. Life is too short. Try to enjoy it. You could be dead tomorrow. You never know.
i have lived in houston texas for my whole life. I have to say that it is the most boring city ever. I have been to all the malls theaters and attractions. what is there to do after all this is said and done? nothing i mean i am sure that if you drive somewhere like to a lake to nice beach yeah but there is no where close in the city like 1 hour to 1 and half that is fun. the rest of the fun stuff is in the usa. i had enough of houston bordem ....................
Interesting what Andrew says about Houston - I just saw a movie named Puncture that was filmed there - it looks bleak. So much for it having 5 million people in its metro area - just a sprawling desolate looking city. Glad I live in NYC.
You kidding me?!?! Singapore?!?!?! You could not be more wrong. These are very good places to visit!!!
Singapore is good to visit - just for a few days however. Then get yourself over to Bangkok - stay a couple of years
This article has been made up... According to an internet poll of 273,000 people, the capital city of Qatar (Doha) is the second most boring city on the planet (after Riyadh in Saudi Arabia)
Even Dubai, the gleaming jewel of the middle east, is pretty darn boring once you have hit the hotel bars/restos and the malls. Can't believe anyone bought into the hype that was - although the same type of suckers bought into places like Vegas and Miami - and look what those investments are worth now.
People like Houston because it's cheap and easy to be middle class there - that's who likes it. It's not the same class of people who inhabit the east and west coast (and Chicago) - these are the people driven from those high-rent creative class areas (banking, advertising, consulting) and they like Houston because you can raise a family of 2 adults and 2 rug rats on 60K - which only covers rent in other cities.
singapore is not boring.....this is all bulls*** singapore is a world class place to live in ASIA even tho tiny but strong....with world class foods, shopping, zoo nightlife and also ZOUKOUT....IF U GET BORED EAST TO TRAVEL AROUND.
Even Boston USA is a very boring city.
Yes, NYC is also boring. (This is getting stupid)
You missed medford oregon
U should include canada's city...canada n canadians r boring no offense .Btw,I m not an American
you all sound like idiots!
Houston Sucks... but then again, why would anyone take a vacation to Texas
?
Surely, you could've come up with more boring cities, at least from Europe. Like Helsinki. Or Reykjavik. Or many cities in Britain and Germany. Bratislava and especially Brussels are FAR from being the most boring cities of Europe. I haven't been to Oslo and Switzerland, so I can't make comments on that.
I live in Brussells and used to live in Orange County and then Miami. People think I'm nuts for moving out here...and I'm starting to think there're right. Sun never shines..and you have to fight hard to not let the boredom sink in. I've done so much exercise even that's become boring. haha..I miss Miami..beaches..but the state of affairs in the USA has got me staying put here for at least a couple of years...Heck..the best thing about living here is planning your vacation to Spain! haha
I am sorry but I DO NOT AGREE with this list!
Oslo is one of the coolest cities I have been to! Maybe it isn't for adults... but it is one of the funnest places kids and teens should be! It is a shame that people think that Norwegians are boring people and all that but NOT ALL OF THEM ARE BORING! Some are really cool and funny... But you should have put Swedish cities, cause they are all SO BORING! Or Finland!!!
I was in Tokyo in December - I have never been so bored in my life! What is exciting about Tokyo? The Ginza is just a strip mall with the same shops I can see anywhere else in the world. Going for a beer seems to be impossible unless you are prepared to pay a whopping great fee just to sit down, and there is NO street life - apart from Piss Alley and Ueno Market, there is NOTHING going on. It has the edge over London in that you can almost always get a seat on the Metro - but exciting? Nope.
I've lived in Brussels and Zurich and must say that this article is very poor. Brussels especially is not a boring city, it's just hard as a tourist to know where to go. There's tons of cool bars, restaurants, clubs, museums, etc. Moreover, unlike pretty much every North American city, you can drink from the age of 16, bars are open all night, and nobody hassles you.
brussels is great. This is whack
you are right , I am living in Belgium and I am not boring
you can find a lot of attractions.
it depends what you like to do
hello, thanks for the article. I think it's a pretty relative matter and depends on the person.
I have not been to all the cities, excepting Zurich, where I moved from Argentina, my native country.
If you like clouds, rain, cold and especially fog (even more than London), cheese, watches, bio bullshit products & expensive prices you will be the happiest Heidi ever!
You have plenty of activities to do in the nature(when weather allows it), but that doesn't fulfill you.
People here are completely closed minded, shy, extremely superficial, materialistic, hypocrite ...they just forgot about the real most important things in life.
Language sucks, they never make you feel you are at home, and they like that.
Swiss people are not polite AT ALL!The one who lives here can say it. They would die before apologizing if they bump into u (more if u r not swiss)
You have some clubs extremely boring, with uncool people.
That is my opinion.
There are plenty of things to look up to though: clean and organized city, excellent transportation; social, economical, political and institutional stability (so far)... it must be I need a bit of chaos to be happy.
And sun...
I lived in Brussels for 15 "long" months and I could not agree more.
It is by far the most boring place on earth.
Looks like some people mean "not super cheapo" when they write "boring". Zürich's got plenty of great clubs, restaurants, theatres, museums - all surrounded by an appealing landscape.
Ok, not everything pops into the faces of those who like to rush through a city in a day and a half. So what? The superficial types are invited to go elsewhere.
So Bratislava has only 400K? Who said that?
totally agreed with you about singapore...... its a hell of boring city I have ever seem.....
You guys come and see Riyadh - Saudi Arabia. I am sure all the boring cities listed in the report come as most interesting when you compare them to Riyadh!
Capital of the biggest oil producer in the world
No cinema
No parks
No nature
hot to hell in the summer
no walking amenities
Only malls and food
I've been to Brussels and yes its sooo boring, but definitely Perth should be right behind it, its an awful place and agree with Wellington been on the list. Thing is... Auckland should be there too....no hub or life in any of these places.they all close for the weekend, bars and all.
Oh and Adelaide and Canberra also.... very sleepy....yawn.
damm zurich switzerland is such a wierd place like the argentinian guy above described it perfectly.
zurich is extremly expensive shit allready when you arive at the famous zurich hauptbahnhof the main train station after a ridiculous overpriced train ticket of almoust 100 franks for less than a hour train ride you arive there at the main station you want a shit beer and a mc donalds menu they robed you more than 20 franks for the most expensive mc menus on the world and a can of average beer two bring with you and drink it on the street like the swiss men do.
next day after a boring night where at 9 o,clock you coud see a soul on the streets and the bars empty i wanted two eat again i payed over 30 swiss franks for a average pizza and a glass of shit quality red wine.
the next day i decided two go wild and buy some drinks at cops big swiss supermarked next two hauptbahnhof this supermarked was not that bad some things where overpriced some not so i get a bottle of italian wine and some diferent swiss chesses two brink two my hotel and eat.
the same night after diner and drinking a full bottle of red wine i get in the mood and wanted party so i went out looking for some action notching hapening so i decided two enter in a zurich brothel and at list i get great sex with a hot east european blonde girl seemed like zurich is a small amsterdam full of tons of burdels and strip places so at list that.
people in zurich and rest of switzerland are so extremly cold, reserved, introverted boring you coud die only watching the people several times you will not know if that person on the sidewalk is a men or a women they also dress like clowns even worsth the rest of switzerland the swiss are defently very strange people from the inside and of the outside they are so ugly and rude swiss people love money chesse and all this bio shit they are obsesed with their bio staff and all that haves two do with green and recycling people in zurich walk around with strange looking bags also mens they call them freitag bags and of course they are ugly swiss made overpriced bags made of recicled truck tarps that go for 300 franks or more and swiss women have wierdest outfits you coud imagine in strange color combos the women i saw in the brothel where the only nice looking girls i saw on my trip two switzerland and for you girls if you go two switzerland dont expect two find hot guys. men in switzerland looked so gay they had mostly a nerd look with horible glases on no style and very boring.
at the weekend also notching special only teenies around the train station drinking red bull with vodka most where no swiss.
I fully agree with Oslo. As i have lived there for about one year, I have very bad experiences. Speaking norwegian on a high communicative level doesn't help much.
People are mostly sad, apathetic and very selfish. City is cold ,full of ugly blocks, outdoor it seems like there were mannequins and zombies walking in the streets.
For sure there might be some places which are nice but if you're non-american foreigner MOST of norwegians will treat you like a lepper or a dumbass.
Slightly disagree with Brussels and Bratislava.
Though they are far from the air of Praha or Barcelona, you can still feel quite cosy there.
I have to agree with you guys, Bratislava is a very charming small city, It has beautiful buildings, rich history, clean streets, ... and has also many nice things to see outside of the center.. Devin castle, blue church, summer beach, biking trails and forests.. it also offers great nightlife but not only in the city center, but also in the student town, drinks for very good prices.. and the most beautiful girls in the world!
Thank you amazing blog, do you have twitter, facebook or something similar where i can follow your blog
Sandro Heckler
Ive been to most of those cities and I'll say that Oslo is the most boring place I've ever been too.. It has the heart and would of a dead snail. I'm never coming back nor would I ever reccomend it to anyone..
A city is only fun if you get involved, I have to assume the writer of this travelled the world with a lonely planet guide, and became disappointed when they read the last page and didn't know where to head next. There is undoubtedly something for everyone in all of these cities, you just have to look for it. If you can't find anything, head home because you are just looking for what you expect
lol I think Louisville, Kentucky (USA) and pretty much all of Indiana are the most boring places I've been to. I've been stuck in Louisville for 11 years and it's driving me crazy. There's NOTHING to do except get drunk (no thanks), go to restaurant, see movie, or go to what they consider a "mall". I'm from Oregon, so it's really depressing.
People in Oslo is cold and reserved and the winter is too long and depressing. One must travel during the summer time because people are more open during the summer.
bratislava is NOT boring, you've never been there
Shocking you can call Brussels boring. Incredible food scene. Top beer. Markets (ever been to the antique market on Sunday?). Action. Art Nouveau architecture. Fantastic neighbourhoods (not just a city core with nothing beyond it). Only the cloudy climate sucks.
This survey is right. Brussels sucks.
According to me the most boring cities are: Brussels and Oslo.
pshhhhh El paso Texas should be number one nothing happens here the only fun part here is seeing your friends then when you see your friends your so bored cuz there's nothing to do then eat yourself into a coma!
Add Perth to the list
