Many of you ignore the fact that this article is about boring cities to VISIT. You wrote about how great the city you've been living for a long time in, but that's not the point.

You think a city that you lived-in is not boring, because probably you frequented a particular bar in one part of town and then drive to other place to have the best after-midnight snack in the country, but that's all local knowledge and interest. Will a tourist go to some unknown -local's favorite- neighborhood bar 25 minutes taxi-ride away after 8 hours-or-more flight?

I travel for a living, and visited most of the mentioned cities above. I've been to Houston so many times, and yes I found it not too exciting, but I still prefer Houston than Frankfurt, for example, as Houstonians are much more friendlier.

Singapore is indeed a very dull city if you stay here for more than a week. If you hear that the city is only good for shopping and eating, well, I found much more better and cheaper shopping in Hong Kong, and the foods are much better elsewhere. Sentosa - a resort island - where you can relax on the beach watching tanker ships pass-by, not very impressive. Oh, did I mention that Universal Studios Singapore closes at 7pm?

But I can't ignore the fact that Singapore does give something interesting for tourists, the novice-casual types. The city is prepared for tourism, and the moniker "Asia for Beginners" perfectly fit the profile.

i think articles like these are unnecessary and stereotype countries and cities. Why not let people explore the world for themselves in freedom without labelling whole cities as 'boring'. I think you are very narrow-minded to assume everybody will share your opinion.

I wonder what you did in each city? and how you judged the 'boredom factor' of each of them?

ill leave you with that thought...

  3. Transient May 11, 2012 2:39 PM

I think you can gouge the 'boredom factor' by seeing that some cities have that 'wow' and you will have that funny feeling that you wish to live there, while some others lacked those factors.

I agree that one should not label as different people will have different ideas about 'boredom', but I also didn't see any reason for disapproving this article, as it provokes good discussions hence promoting the travel slash tourism itself.

  4. Joe87 May 14, 2012 10:12 AM

The most boring city on earth is definitely Riyadh, the capital of Saudi-Arabia. At least for expats. Most live in walled compounds, you are not allowed to drink alcohol, there there are no movie theatres etc., you are not allowed to meet women, 5 times a day life comes to a standstill, every shops closes because of the prayer times. Only thing to do in Riyadh is stuck hours on the boring roads in traffic jams, go to a restaurant (beware: if you are single you are not allowed in the 'family section') or go shopping in the malls (beware: many you are not allowed to enter when you are a single man)...

  5. Helen May 14, 2012 3:16 PM

Just wondering... Which criteria are used to evaluate these cities?! And for whom has this article been written? For tourists or for inhabitants?! Be aware that a city can be great for the one, and boring for the other depending on one's own interests ! Having personal connections in those cities also plays a great role on one's appreciation of a place. Also, how much time did the author of this article stay in each city? There is always something new to discover about every city, and that process of continuous discovery can take years. In brief, I found the article quite disappointing. Knowing what is GOOD about each of those cities, the little places where you would have a lot of fun, is so much more interesting than writing like this. Moreover, distinguishing between different interests here is essential: The one into nature would be happy to visit Oslo, those in ... etc.

  6. Dude May 15, 2012 7:45 AM

I have been to all of these places except Wellington.

Singapore is by far the most boring out of these.
Like many others aid above: It may be okay for a couple days, but then it becomes an incredible snorefest. Food is seriously overrated, shopping is generic and locals have nothing to say. Nightlife sucks. Nature almost non-existent.

  7. anna kelly May 18, 2012 5:06 PM

i have to agree, Zurich/Singapore/Brussels have to be most boring places on the planet. Each vacuuming in talent and slaves from surrounding countries in a uber-technocratic regime for the benefit of local mutants..

  8. Elise May 18, 2012 9:06 PM

I'm a native Houstonian and can agree that Houston is a boring city. It's flat, ugly, run down and dangerous in plenty of areas. I'm embarrassed when my friends or family come to visit because there is nothing for them to see and do. Galleria? How sad. I'm just waiting for the economy to pick up so I can finally leave this boring h---hole. It's full of uneducated and lazy people. The only people who like Houston are the unfortunate ones who have never lived anywhere else. They have no idea that outside of Texas, everyone is feels sorry for them. Get me out of here!!

  9. Staggslaw May 24, 2012 1:54 AM

I take it to mean you never met a lady in Brussells. I've had layovers there a few times, and never failed to meet someone nice, and always nice enough never to be tempted by the lovely ladies advertising their wares behind glass windows. True, if the only thing you ever saw was the little boy peeing, La Legende, or Leopold Square, though it is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, Brussells wouldn't be very stimulating, but the Nato capitol has a lot more to offer than that, and I've never flown back to the States without a smile on my face and a song in my heart. To put it simply, they are some of the nicest people in Europe, or anywhere.

  10. Me May 28, 2012 3:29 AM

I have been to most of these. Houston is absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, the ugliest of them all. Hot, congested, and populated by rednecks driving trucks. Armpit of the world. And, I live there.

  11. Me, again. May 28, 2012 3:31 AM

Oslo struck me not so much as boring - it is boring as everything that is fun to do is ridiculously expensive - but rather aesthetically being stuck in the 1970s. Very odd.

  12. Anon May 28, 2012 1:12 PM

    what about Canberra? lol

  13. Houstonian - Shane May 30, 2012 8:14 PM

Houston is ugly. It might not be the most boring place comparing to other cities, but it is definitely the ugliest metropolitan being one of the US largest cities. We lack aesthetic and scenery.

  14. Vegard May 31, 2012 9:09 AM

This article is just pure BS. Let me go through the list of the cities I have visited.

Brussel: One of the most interesting cities in the world. As he said, lots of resturants, food and things to do outside. As well, you will find heaps of architecture and important buildings.

Singapore: Is he kidding us? There are a lot to do in Singapore apart from visiting shopping malls. Although I agree it is not as interesting as Hong Kong, but that does not make it boring.

Wellington: Probably the most interesting city in New Zealand for travelers, and I am living in Auckland.

Oslo: The city I have lived most of my life. I agree, it is quite boring for travelers. Better if you are a local, and know where to go.

  15. Lauren Jun 13, 2012 8:06 PM

What a poorly written article with a narrow point of view. Laughable.

  16. hhh Jun 14, 2012 4:55 PM

Your pic of Brussels is boring. Why didn't photograph the historic centre? There's no way Brussels is boring. What about Atomium? The beautiful churches? And actually the nightlife isn't all that bad compared to other cities.

  17. CFC Jun 16, 2012 9:21 PM

Different strokes for different folks, People that are bored in places are most likely boring people, don't knock a place if it cannot keep you entertained!

  18. Natasha Jun 17, 2012 12:28 AM

Absolutely agree with Transient. I was born and raised in Singapore; I lived there for twenty years, and besides the few little museums, visits to the three (small and watered down) cultural quarters, the botanical gardens, zoo, bird park and night safari (see? apart from universal studio and sentosa, I named it all), there honestly is nothing to do except eat or shop. Even the shopping is shit. It is a nation full of malls, and yet almost every mall serves up the same kind of shops. The only people I've ever known to genuinely like Singapore are first-time tourists and money-blowing expatriates interested in living the good, gastronomic lifestyle.

  19. Em Jun 19, 2012 12:15 AM

Wow, this is a terrible article. So subjective! Maybe it should be called - 'Cities I have found boring to visit'. So you think they're boring, but clearly many others don't! It seems unfair to dissaude people from travelling anywhere, just because you don't enjoy yourself there. What exactly are you looking for? Do you need to be entertained every minute? You clearly don't appreciate places for what they are, if you spend the whole time comparing them with other, larger, places. I'm probably a bit bias as I live in Wellington and rate it as my favourite place in the world... (and you are labelling it as boring, because it's windy?! That's pathetic. But freezing Prague is ok?) But I've done a lot of travelling (including to almost all the places on your list) and there are very few places I've been bored visiting. How can you be when everything is different and exciting?! Even sitting in a cafe reading a book in another country can be great! I think this article says more about you and your incapacity for fun, than about any of the cities in question...

  20. doug Jun 19, 2012 6:42 PM

let me just say that ive lived in houston for all 16 years of my miserable existence, and it is hands down the worst place to live. i hate it i hate it. theres nothing to do. dont ever move here and subject them to houston.

  21. David Jun 20, 2012 10:26 PM

Slovakia in general is a dump. Also Slovakians are thick, small minded peasants... One and all. Also beware the Gypsies which make up about 40% of the population, they will steel and intimidate you and your family. Lots more negative things from this absolute shit hole of a country.

  22. Andy Jun 22, 2012 9:03 AM

article is spot on.. excellent writting .
should have been longer? 100 cities maybe?

  23. bill Jun 22, 2012 10:00 PM

sorry, but brussels is not boring. grand place, atomium, manican piss etc. and the food is amazing CHOCOLATE, WAFFLES wonderful little markets. AND IF U EVER GET BORED, there other beautiful towns surrounding it. I recommend u go there! ( except if u hate rain)

  24. d.m Jun 23, 2012 9:02 PM

    HOUSTON SUCKS! SERIOUSLY.

  25. ED Jun 23, 2012 11:08 PM

Houston does suck, I can't believe anyone would defend it. Lived here 5 years, never ever seen anyone but a native praise the city, they just don't know any better. It is laughable.

Only had to come here because of work transfer, getting the hell out soon as I can.

First of all yes all cities have ghettos, but Houston has some really dangerous run down ghettos. Huge endless highways but still you get horrible traffic jams, this proves that you can't just keep building endless highways.

The city is running out of money, you can tell that by the deteriorating road conditions, cracked sidewalks etc..

Miles and miles of ugly run down businesses with graffiti on the side, litter out front, it is just depressing, the ugly run down strip malls everywhere, plus the crazy amounts of heat, very depressing.

Ugly vast suburban sprawl for miles and miles, ugly run down downtown with lots of homeless people and panhandlers.

    Houston sucks ass.

  26. ED Jun 23, 2012 11:12 PM

Just want to add that yes Houston is cheap, but you get exactly what you pay for, there is a reason it so so cheap. Your typical Houstonian has also never been out of Texas let alone the U.S.A, just have this false sense of pride.

  27. Stew Jun 24, 2012 3:12 AM

Do not agree with Singapore, it is so vibrant and you can actually go out in night and not fear for your. I come from Dullsville (Perth) we copy other cities because we have no immagination and at night stay inside ... such an exciting city !!! NOT

  28. Sarah Jun 25, 2012 5:45 AM

I agree with CFC above....don't knock down a place just because you are unsophisticated individual who is blind to each and every place that is uniquely interesting. Every city is different and has something special to offer everyone. If you are bored in a place, perhaps, you are a boring person. Indeed, you are a boring person because you actually have the time to write such horrid comments about any place.

  29. snoopy Jun 26, 2012 10:40 PM

d truth hurts... always and if a man has need to defend his point so strongly as d top posts on huston............ i can only imagine how boring it is if d inhabitants spend their time on computer trying to convince others how fun it is... also thought this was suppose to b list of boring cities... why there is d village of bratislava on d list...

  30. snoopy Jun 26, 2012 10:43 PM

on d other note... a man brings fun him self to a place if he wants to have fun... and it doesnt matter where d/a man is :)

  31. Manuel Jun 30, 2012 3:41 AM

Yo, d snoopy....if ya gonna write in elementary school English and can't spell a damn thing....do us a big favor and don't post a damn comment. It's freakin embarrasing reading yo 3rd grade level English. What a fool! Yo....LA rules, bitch!

  32. Jose from Brazil Jun 30, 2012 3:47 AM

Snoopy...I'm an English teacher and your English and spelling is ridiculous. No wonder the world is mess up. We got people like you running around. Hope you don't have children.

  33. Alice from Asia Jun 30, 2012 5:25 AM

Life is too short to spend hating on other folks and what they write. People have the right to speak freely. If they like a city and speak highly of that place, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. All of you who speak favorably of your towns, you have my admirations. Stand up for what you believe. If you believe your town is great, then, it truly has something unique to offer every visitors. World peace can only happens when we all learn to respect each other. So, go out there and enjoy life....wherever you may be...

  34. Gina Jun 30, 2012 2:50 PM

This blog is a waste of time. We should have a blog where people share comments and recommendations about the many great things to see in their home towns. This blog is nothing but folks who hate on folks who love their towns. Seriously, grow up cause you are no longer in elementary schools, so quit acting like one. I'm embarrassed to read what grown adults write on this blog....nothing but hateful comments for those who love their hometowns. Seriously, people....are you guys that immature. Don't teach your children your sad and disgusting behavior. You should feel ashamed to behave in this way especially if you are a parents.

  35. Monica Jun 30, 2012 3:07 PM

I agree with Alice from Asia and Gina....my mother always taught me....if you have nothing nice to say...it's best to keep it to yourself. When you harbor nothing hatred toward other folks, you get nothing in return but maybe, high blood pressure, evil feelings, negativity, low standard or sub standard characters....really do you want your family to write in your death eulogy that you're nothing but a hateful human being while you were alive? We all have a short time here on earth to prove to God we are good decent human beings. Leave this earth a better place....get out there...do community service...should your children how it is great to be nice to people and show respect toward one another. Perhaps, when you die, your eulogy won't be so gloom....

  36. Marcus Johnson in LA Jun 30, 2012 3:12 PM

Well said ladies....I do love the ladies....you guys sound smart and sexy....love the ladies....love your comments....keep up the good work....show these hateful sons and bitches how to live peacefully on this earth....

  37. Michelle Jun 30, 2012 3:49 PM

People....get out there and enjoy life....these cities are awesome places...quit trash talking about these wonderful places....you never know....tomorrow could be your last day on earth...you could get kill by a drunk drinker, die of cancer, get infectious disease....seriously, people get a life and quit talking shit about these nice places...you could be dead tomorrow....ha ha ha...who's laughing then, hah? You be in your grave and these cities will continue to shine....

  38. Marcus Johnson Jun 30, 2012 3:54 PM

Wow...ladies...you guys really hit it homes....get kill by drunk drivers, get sexually transmitted disease,....yeah, sons and bitches....you could die tomorrow....so, stop this shit talking...making me sick....love the ladies...love your comments...hit it homes ladies...

  39. Steve Jun 30, 2012 11:47 PM

    Well said ladies....

  40. Marcelo Jul 1, 2012 4:30 AM

Never been to Houston, but saw on TV that everynight has a different place to dance country music...

  41. Lucy Jul 1, 2012 4:42 AM

Marcelo, we welcome you to our beloved town. Houston is so culturally diversed. It is very well known for it's culinary awesomeness. Yep, Houstonians love to eat and they have tons of restaurants here representing every different countries (Belgian, Brazil, India, Vietnam, China, Lebanon, Egypt, Greece, Spain, France, Germany, Japan, Nigeria, Thailand, Peru, Mexico, etc). Some places offer fun things to do mix in with food. After eating, you can find Houstonians dance the night away with salsa dancing, the Texas two steps, etc. Oh, did I mention they love to eat....this city has the most folks dining out several times a week than any other cities I've been to....I'm not from Houston. I'm from up north recently move to Houston for job opportunity. So far, Houston doesn't disappoint. I sure don't miss the snow.

  42. Lucy from Michigan Jul 1, 2012 4:45 AM

Compare to Dallas....Houston is very warm to outsiders like myself. They are not snobbish. They treat you like you're from Texas even if you're not. And yes, Texans are very proud people. They love their state and their town. They have a reason to be proud. I like living in my new adopted home town.

  43. Jeff from Chicago Jul 1, 2012 4:56 AM

Lucy. You are correct. Houstonians are very welcoming to outsiders. I, too, move to Houston for jobs. It hasn't disappoint. I enjoy all the entertainments this town offer. I certainly don't miss the snow. But wish Houston would have train systems like that of Chicago.

  44. Jeff from Chicago Jul 1, 2012 5:04 AM

I try my first authentic Texas BBQ in Houston. I'm still salivating and dreaming of the next BBQ. I'm liking this Texan food. So different from Chicago. I make good friends here and will invite my Houston friends to Chicago. It should be fun to give them a taste of that Chicago freeze....

  45. yahooey Jul 1, 2012 9:33 AM

Brussels sucks indeed... Capital of boredom.

  46. Edwin Jul 1, 2012 5:22 PM

At the moment.. I'm here in Bratislava for 2 days.. It doesn't actually have lot of historic attractions to offer.. I got extremely bored fortunately..will be moving up to Prague tomorrow.. Slovakia is one of the least developed EU country.. currently, they are still struggling to improve their economy... sad to say many Slovaks are out of work...

  47. edwin Jul 1, 2012 5:24 PM

Bratislava is such a borring place.. I wasted my holiday and should have gone to a nicer place instead...

  48. Ali Jul 4, 2012 3:23 AM

Did you guys visit Doha - Qatar ?? ?

  49. Rob Jul 4, 2012 2:33 PM

Alot of people are complaining about the heat from Houston, wow have you never been to south east Asia or better yet during the middle of an Australian summer to Australia. Singapore I know is trying to become a less boring place and I reckon they are doing a great job with it, I have been to Wellington and it really is a beautiful place and is not boring provided your only there for lets say 2 days or less. 2 days is enough to do it all.

  50. JJ Jul 6, 2012 3:48 PM

I travel to Singapore on business frequently and I have never once been bored there. Same with Wellington, NZ - I love that city. I guess it depends what you want from a city when you visit it - I value safety, good local bars and restaurants, something entertaining to do during the day (shops, museums, walkabouts, interesting districts) and both of these cities can offer that. Each to their own I guess, but this article certainly won't stop me visiting any of these places in the future.

  51. Dugg Jul 11, 2012 8:37 PM

Oslo Norway is ANYTHING but dull... I have been there and I have never had more fun in my life. Oslo is a very fun city with nice people. "dull urban architecture" are you serious Oslo has some of the best architecture in the world. This was a horrible list.

  52. Wellyman Jul 14, 2012 5:38 PM

HAHAHAHAHA! This is pretty hilarious if not tragic: by your criteria set out as "thrill of vibrant metropolises, and the excitement of bustling nightlife", Wellington would have been one of the last place to apepar on the list by any means. It has the biggest artsy fartsy indie music art scene in the country although Christchurch competes against it on music, the best theatre, concert, show with show at least every weekend, and hey, its clubs and bars are even the best in the country. And even the West Island (who knows NZ better than anyone else in the world) wouldn't dare claim Welly is boring.

  53. Latisha Jul 15, 2012 5:25 AM

Kiss my chocolate vanilla ice ass

  54. Toronto is boring Jul 16, 2012 12:54 PM

Never been to any on the list so can't comment there. Have traveled very extensively and lived in six countries on three continents so far and I'd have to say the MOST unremarkable, smug, boring city with very little original art/culture/politics is... Toronto. Hate it.

  55. bri Jul 21, 2012 4:26 AM

try Phoenix AZ soooo boring... i live there id know

  56. Uncle_Scrooch Jul 21, 2012 7:42 AM

Brussels is as boring as its sprouts.

  57. Conchita Jul 24, 2012 11:43 PM

I live in Houston and I want out. This place is so boring, I hate it. Whenever my relatives come to visit, all they do is tease me for still living here. I'm 23 years old and know that this place is the worst. It's ugly and dangerous. Too many ghetto people and there is no where to go to just hang out. Would love to move to California where all my cousins are. When I visit them and it's time to leave, I always cry. There is a reason why it's so cheap to live here and am reminded by it when I walk out of my door.

  58. LOL Aug 2, 2012 12:54 AM

LOL at the same LIAR who keeps getting on the comments here with a different screen name to make up lies about Houston. Did your girlfriend in Houston dump you? Or maybe it's just Chili trying to validate his crap article...

  59. Luis Aug 6, 2012 12:07 AM

Houston is booring bottom line! I don't care what people say! I can't stand this city! The only places I find myself to go are the Parks- to play soccer, the movies, flea market, and Galveston. What else is there to do?! NOTHING is within walking distance and IT IS HOT! I had more fun in Cali, east LA and in Silver Spring Maryland then Ive had in Houston ALL my life! CRAP hole!

  60. ... Aug 11, 2012 7:15 PM

Houston is for you if you want affordable housing and a great job market. Its the oil and gas capital of the USA. If you want sandy beaches, entertainment, etc. you should go to LA. If you want to get down to business and thrive in a great economy, get down to Houston. Sure, we have shitty summer weather. But there is plenty of nightlife and great places to eat. Its the 4th largest city in the USA for a reason, and thats because of the great job market.

  61. wag Aug 13, 2012 8:06 AM

go to gisborne in newzealand and ill show u boring all of u lowlife people wouldnt no what boring was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  62. Joker Aug 16, 2012 3:27 PM

The list is pretty accurate but number 1 for me would be iceland terrible unless u like ice - Bratislava is ok for a small city but agreed pretty dead when u compare

  63. kiwibro Aug 16, 2012 4:03 PM

Wellyman - Wellington is a blustery cold shithole I couldnt keep my wig on straight! nothing much to do, boring shops, it seems the people there live in a bubble thinkin its awesome when its totally zzzzzzzzzz

  64. wag Aug 24, 2012 8:13 AM

wellington and gisborne r both shit but new zealand is cool.rugby world champs yeah.where did the poms come just sayin

  65. Mario Aug 25, 2012 9:20 PM

Been to many cities all over the world. Houston is horrible. I have family there that tried to show me around -- sad and dull. Generic bars and 3rd rate restaurants. Museums lack vision or direction. Now when I visit there I limit it to three days max

  66. wag Aug 27, 2012 11:53 AM

sydney is good but the aussies stuff it up.

  67. Stephanie Sep 13, 2012 5:32 PM

  68. Medo Sep 17, 2012 4:48 PM

Hi Guys,Have been thinking of you a lot these past days and pryniag for you. I'm so glad that you have at least had a few good days with friends, family, and especially with each other. I'm pryniag with you as our Lord shows you how to make the days count, and they do, each one of them.

  69. Liva Oct 9, 2012 9:35 PM

You also forgot Kuala Lumpur.. When the Orchid Garden is seen, not mch to do than get moving. Boring weird vibe at this place

  70. Houstonian Oct 19, 2012 12:53 AM

Houston needs a six flags, sea world ,and a Disney world so that we can step it up but we are good people and a good city if you want it to be hustle and bustle than make a change instead of posting it on a stupid web site where they call cities boring

  71. Jon Oct 19, 2012 11:54 AM

Rubbish article. Clearly this guy has never been to any of these places. Brussels has a great underground music scene. Oslo has great bars and if you're into metal it's definitely a good place to be. Zürich is considered second only to Berlin in the electro music scene (whether you like that music style or not is another thing). Singapore is known among expats as a place of wild hedonism. Can't speak for the others, but judging by how far off the mark they are on the places i've been, can't say its looking good.

  72. Rongens Oct 20, 2012 3:59 AM

Any Australian city is backward and boring. Have lived in Melbourne for nine years now and cannot wait to leave. Just came back from the fun capital of the world Madrid. Coming back here now is like having arrived in a village with no buildings around an absolute cemmetery. The food and restaurants are rubbish .( Melbournians believe this to be a food capital lofl). The shopping is a joke. And the weather is always windy and unbelievably variable.
All the Australians i met in Madrid said the place is such an eye opener . High speed trains everywhere. Metro stations within a hundred metres of each other . Non stop buses unbelievable freeways . Unlike Melbournes virtually third world infrustructure. Then you have Madrids dynamism fueled by the greatest nightlife in the world. As opposed to Melbournes incredibly sedate lifestyle. The incredible shopping with many small shops closing at 2 am. A food to die for and an incridible climate. and its no wonder im selling up and getting the hell out of this supremely boring city. Thank christ i have a German passport which enables me to live in countries such as Spain.

  73. wag Oct 20, 2012 10:49 AM

Hate Houston, any idiot that thinks this city is good. You need to get your head looked at. You must be is you like Houston, must be the most boring person alive. I hate this city! Ghetto, and trashy. Good luck shi* bags.

  75. Scooterfyr Oct 21, 2012 2:17 PM

Can't say I like Oslo much, but boring it isn't. Compared to New York, London or Paris it's boring - but what city isn't?

  76. Boring!! Nov 1, 2012 5:56 PM

Its obvious that the writer of this article has not traveled to Riyadh, Saudi or Doha, Qatar

I live in Oslo and it is crap! The architecture is horrible, everything is too expensive and the people are rude and arrogant. Ugly, dull and just depressing! Can't wait to move back to the UK which just has a bad reputation but is actually pretty wonderful in many ways.

In my years of traveling and from being stuck in small-barely-there-towns to big-up all night-cities and I've learned one thing: People are boring... not cities.

  79. hughsie Nov 20, 2012 2:53 AM

Most US cities are pretty dull and dumpy - I just viisted Milwaukee on business and that downtown is a ghost town. Houston is a big sprawling sh*thole. Best US cities - NYC, Chicago, SF, Boston, DC. That's it.

I think you will find all of the above cities crazy exciting if you've ever been to Doha in Qatar...

  85. jedecorte Dec 8, 2012 5:06 PM

I'm sorry for you, but you didn't visit Brussels. You shoud've visited the city with a local... The night life is FAN-TAS-TIC!

BUT the most exciting city is definatily Amsterdam!

  86. anna marie cruz Dec 18, 2012 4:04 PM

I think you forgot simferopol, ukraine ......now nothing can beat that!

  87. Random User Dec 19, 2012 12:40 AM

    Singapore? Boring? No.
It's a good place if you want to stay for a few days. There's nightlife, beaches, Sentosa, some nature and museums.

  88. CftxP Dec 19, 2012 11:05 AM

Houston = Boring? I guess you could say that. But if you're out at night, I'd think it would be anything but, unless you're in the suburban areas in and around the city, which I am, and why I am pretty bored here. :/

Still, to visit? I'd honestly only go here if a major event was being held, this is the city for conventions after all! There were plans for new attractions here years ago, wonder what ever happened to that? Would definitely make the place a little more cheery and exciting if you ask me since Houston's reputation is pretty much a giant small town. (though the crime rate is anything but endemic to one) ;)

  89. Vincenzo Dec 26, 2012 5:30 PM

I would easily put Zurich at the top of this list: boring, predictable and just functional as a bank office

  90. Tony Arroyo Jan 10, 2013 3:07 AM

Houston is beloved by America's middle class not the creative class. Period. It's cheap to live there and raise a family. The creative class folks are in LA, SF, Chicago, NYC, Boston, and smaller places like Austin.

  91. jibs Jan 21, 2013 4:30 PM

    Yop!
I leave in Brussels since 2006 man and it's far away from beeing boring!
Where have you been? If you followed you're euroworkers friends, i'm sure you didn't go to the right places...
Also I'm sure you like Paris for instance, where you pay 10e a beer (a pils omg...) with posh people and have to be dressed like the biggest fashion victim ever to be allowed to enter somewhere.

No really, you don't know Brussels.

  92. Alan Jan 21, 2013 7:32 PM

Brussels has plenty of night clubs and bars full of international students and an excellent day time amusements.

  93. flow Jan 21, 2013 7:38 PM

yes, Brussels is a really good city for night life! A lot of french people enjoy a week end there just for the clubs and the bars. This article is non sense, there is no explanation or argumentary, if it was on paper I just could use it in my toilets. Shame on you

  94. Pedro Jan 22, 2013 7:00 AM

Such a silly article. Have been to over a 100 countries and all these cities (but Houston) do not qualify as "boring"; in fact, Singapore is totally "fun-driven" to a fault; and Oslo ranks among the 10 most beautiful; all opinions are relative, but what do they actually qualify as "boring"? *sigh*

  95. The Otelbookers Team Jan 29, 2013 2:09 PM

Shocking! Such beautiful countries to visit with so much to do but you consider them boring. I think your need to sort out your priorities with where you want to go and precisely what you wanted to do there...

  96. ACE Jan 30, 2013 7:54 PM

  99. Bebo Feb 16, 2013 6:51 PM

If you have to "look" for things to do you live in a boring place. I am in Dallas, TX. I feel as if I live in a retirement community. I am always having to "look" for things to do as most of the people are homebodies and only come out when there is a Cowboys game. There is a lot of sprawl and when you add in traffic it can often take an hour to get downtown or to other parts of Dallas.

Most of the culture is pretty settled. Starting at young ages. Seems that by the time folks here get to be 23 they are already married with a mortgage and a couple of kids. They do nothing but sit around the house watching movies.

There is no sense of community where I live in North Dallas especially. You barely see people walking or riding bikes. No kids. No pets. No anything but traffic.

It is absolutely the most lifeless place I have EVER lived and thank God I am leaving in two months.
