Just heard the news of 3 hikers killed by an avalanche in Poland. Who in their right mind sets off up into the mountains in winter ?? ? Aren't there enough warnings or are people really so stupid as to disrespect them? Let alone their ignorance puts others' lives in danger too.

lol yet another take-home message from a couch potato for whom the greatest thrill is hopping tv channels, going from garden improvement to extreme home makeover... people have passions, you know, and nobody's in the position to call them stupid, so just grab another bag of crisps and stop windbagging about stuff you have no idea about.

And what makes you think I don't know what I'm talking about? I'm a hiker myself and have seen enough to realize that mountains can take your life away in a blink of an eye even when the conditions are perfect. When there's avalanche alert, stay away. I don't feel like paying for your passions with my insurance premiums.

Sorry to butt in, but I have to agree with MickyMichael, although I wouldn't probably have put it so blatantly. Living life is a risk in itself. Just think of it. You face hazards every day, it's just that some of them bring more immediate consequences than others. You drink tap water- you take risk, you buy GM food- there's risk to it as well, you get in a car- there's a person dying in an accident every 10 minutes or so. This is how I see it – life is about making choices, getting an attitude towards risks and setting our personal boundaries of how far we can go in pursuit of happiness. If that's what makes me stupid, so be it.
