i'll be spending this summer in the US...planning trip along west coast, down to California. Where are the best surfing spots for the beginner? Is renting boards expensive in the US, or is it better to buy own board for a couple of months? I'd be grateful for some information.

If you want to stay within your limits:

Indian Beach, OR
Pacifica State Beach, CA
Huntington Beach, CA

As for the gear, rental will cost you around $30/day plus around $20 for a wetsuit. Not sure how much are surfboards in your country, but if you're planning a long term commitment to surfing, I'd buy a board of my own if I were you.

Thanks a lot for help. I tried some surf in Spain and Portugal last year and renting a board for a day is around 25 euro, while wetsuit is around 15 euro a day...so the prices are quite comparable.

I'll check the beaches you have mentioned.

Thanks again for info.
