The 16-hectare site was built on the grounds of a rundown neighborhood and meant to have, in the words of President Eisenhower, ‘mighty influence for peace and understanding throughout the world'. And it surely has had, enabling art lovers to experience the excellence of internationally acclaimed performers and by encouraging new artists for over 50 prolific years. An excellent job!
